WELCOME TO THE 3rd Grade Class
Where our Goals are College and Heaven!!
Dear Parents:
I am delighted to wish you a HAPPY NEW SCHOOL YEAR! I’m anticipating an exciting and rewarding 2018/2019 school year and look forward to getting to know both you and your children. We have so many exciting things happening this year, and I can't wait to get started! As many of you know, I taught at Transfiguration Catholic School for many years, and am an alumnus of Transfiguration’s graduating class of 1976. When Sacred Heart’s and Transfiguration’s schools merged, I was honored and pleased to be chosen to continue my ministry here! I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
Your child’s grades will be based on assessments, projects, homework, classwork and participation. Should your child have an unsatisfactory test grade (D or F), the test/assessment must be corrected and signed by a parent and returned the following school day.
Homework is assigned every day except Friday. Please be sure that your child’s homework is NEAT and COMPLETE. After you have checked over your child’s work, I ask that you read and then sign their agenda book. If the agenda hasn’t been signed by a parent (no initials, please!), the child will be given an incomplete homework slip. It is the child’s responsibility to have their parent/guardian sign their agenda book. Homework that is given is a review of what has been taught in class. Please take a few minutes each night to check your child’s progress. If an assignment is not completed, the student will have one additional day to turn it in to receive partial credit. If the assignment is 2 or more days late, no credit will be given.
If your child is absent, a list of assignments and books will be placed upon their desk or sent home with a sibling if you have other children attending Sacred Heart. If your child is absent one day, they will have one day to make it up, if they are absent for 2 days, they will have 2 days to make it up, etc. When your child returns to school, he/she should have a note for me explaining their absence. Missed tests will be given the day of their return (unless other arrangements have been made in advance).
Student work will be sent home approximately every three weeks with a communication form. Please use this time to review your child’s work. If an assignment is missing, or your child has received an unsatisfactory test grade, he/she has 1 school day to complete and correct the paper. Our P.E. days are Tuesdays and Fridays. The students will need to come to school in their P.E. clothes on Tuesdays and Fridays. Full school uniforms need to be worn on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (unless we earn a Spirit Day!!) Behavior Policy Our classroom rules are:
The students start the day on a #3, which is “meets expectations”. There is a possibility of raising their number to a 4 if their behavior is exemplary. However, if they get moved down to a 2, or a 1 they will sit out recess to complete a “Thinking Sheet” which will be stapled in the agenda for the parent/guardian to sign and returned the following school day. If misbehavior continues, and they move down to a zero, they will meet with the principal/vice-principal and also receive a conduct slip which will be sent home and needs to be signed by a parent/guardian. ALL PARENT COMMUNICATIONS NEED TO BE SIGNED AND RETURNED THE FOLLOWING SCHOOL DAY!!
Positive reinforcement will be given in the form of a note from the teacher, verbal praise, certificates, ROCK Tickets etc. Your child’s agenda book will serve as our main communication system for any concerns, questions, behavior issues and positive notes.
PLEASE insure that your child arrives to school on time. It sets the tone for the entire day. If your child is tardy, he/she will need to go to the office for a tardy slip before being admitted to class.
I am available most mornings before school if you would like to schedule a conference. Please call and the office and schedule an appointment. Notes written in the agenda will be promptly answered and are an excellent means of daily communication between parent and teacher!
I want to thank you in advance for all your support. Together we will continue to work toward success and high student achievement. I am very excited about the year ahead, and look forward to having the privilege of teaching your child!
Fondly,
Robbie Mueller,
